This week Port Stephens Council voted to move forward with the Port Stephens Tourism Plan 2010.
The report, commissioned by Port Stephens Council and Port Stephens Tourism limited (PSTL) and jointly funded by the Industry & Investment NSW, contains several key recommendations including:
- Focussing on the seasonality of events in Port Stephens
- Diversifying into new markets
- Realising the tourism potential of individual localities, towns and villages
- Improving visitor facilities and infrastructure
- Expanding visitor information through internet and digital marketing
Chairperson of PSTL, Peter Dann, said the report provided a blueprint for tourism as a major economic driver for the region.
“Council and Port Stephens Tourism commissioned this report with a view to providing a clear path for the future of the industry and I believe it delivers that,” he said.
“It looks at building further on our key strengths as well as identifying areas we need to improve in. One of these ideas is to separate the functions of Council and PSTL over time.”
“If we get these strategies right, we can ensure that tourism remains at the forefront of Port Stephens’ social, cultural and economic future.”
The strategy was developed by Jenny Rand and Associates, the documents are available for download below.
