CityRail operates a regular daily scheduled electric passenger rail service between Newcastle and Sydney with a travel time of 2.5 hours.

State Transit operates bus services throughout the Hunter region.

Bus services also link to the passenger train system at bus/rail interchanges at Newcastle, Fassifern, Charlestown and Broadmeadow.
